The city of Eufaula is adding new outdoor activities to the community to help get people outside and excited about everything the city has to offer.
EUFAULA, Ala. - The city of Eufaula is adding new outdoor activities to the community to help get people outside and excited about everything the city has to offer.
Eufaula Parks and Recreation and Kayak Eufaula launched their new e-bikes at Lake Point State Park last Tuesday, with the community center starting to rent them out Monday.
“Eufaula Parks and Rec is really in tune with what the newest and biggest best craze is going on,” said Ann Sparks with the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce. The chamber of commerce is shifting its focus to outdoor tourism to continue attracting new people to the city. The e-bikes are one of many new additions to Eufaula, along with disc golf, kayak tours and new pickleball courts.
“We definitely want to incorporate more outdoor activities into Eufaula as a whole, and we want to move forward just like most of the bigger cities are doing,” said Zadie Weisharr with Kayak Eufaula. “We want kids getting more off technology and more into the outdoors. ” The new offerings are paying off. Weisharr said the business has done the same amount this year since opening in early March as it did all of last year.
Eufaula relies on tourism with people coming from around the state, region and world thanks to advertising at the Atlanta airport. Tourism is a major part of Eufaula’s economy as $68 of every $100 spent at small businesses stays local. Weisharr said travelers stopping through the city are taking notice.
“When they’re going to Florida they stop here, and seeing everything that’s been done it makes them feel like, oh well I want to go look in the town and see what else has been done,” Weisharr said. Kayak Eufaula has been able to launch these new activities thanks to the Innovate Alabama Grant, which helps stimulate the economy through increased infrastructure and expanded organizations related to state parks.
