Now, she confirms he reached out in a brief call, stating authorities accused him of being a spy. Al Awir prison, located less than 20 miles from Dubai's city center, is notorious for its harsh conditions, housing violent offenders, and has been described as a hellish facility.
Katie relayed her words from the call: I told him how worried I had been and told him I loved him. It was very rushed, but he said the authorities out there thought he was a spy. I don't know much more than that right now, she told The Sun. Lee is understood to have been arrested on Wednesday, May 14, after keeping a low profile and moving his belongings to his father's residence.
He faces a four-figure fine and is expected to be released on Monday. The UK Foreign Office has not confirmed his specific location but stated they are supporting the family and are in contact with UAE officials regarding a British man's welfare. Lee's disappearance began after he sent Katie a video showing himself hooded with hands tied, claiming he was kidnapped and taken to a black site as he attempted to travel to London.
