Global Sumud Flotilla Accuses US of Complicity in Torture of Activists by Israel

Testimonies from the latest Gaza-bound flotilla reveal systematic torture and sexual assault of humanitarian volunteers by Israeli forces using US-built ships and weapons, prompting calls for a US investigation and an end to unconditional military support for Israel.

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) has released testimonies detailing the abduction, torture, and sexual assault of humanitarian volunteers , including US citizens, by Israel i forces. The activists assert that the ship used for the detentions, built by Bollinger Mississippi Shipbuilding in Louisiana and financed by the US government, and the weapons like stun grenades and metal-bearing projectile rounds from Combined Tactical Systems (CTS), a brand of Combined Systems Inc. (CSI) of Jamestown, Pennsylvania, directly implicate the United States in the abuses.

According to GSF, detained humanitarians, doctors, and journalists were processed through a darkened shipping container where groups of three to five soldiers systematically brutalized each person while others waited in earshot of the screams. Dr. Jihan Alya Mohd Nordin, a Malaysian physician aboard, documented 35 members with fractured or dislocated bones, severe head injuries, and 14 cases of sexual assault. She described being shoved, struck, punched, kicked, and choked, with her hijab forcibly removed.

GSF's media team stated that the US role extends beyond diplomatic shielding and the Embassy's refusal to assist American families; it includes providing the ship and weapons. Legal analysts cited note that under US law, arms transfers must only be for purposes authorized by law, and Israel's use of a US-built vessel for an illegal seizure in international waters and as a base for torture and sexual assault against civilians who broke no laws violates those terms.

The organization calls for a US investigation into Israel's use of US-origin arms to abuse American citizens, a suspension of arms transfers pending the probe, and an end to unconditional military and diplomatic support for what they term a regime committing genocide. This incident echoes the 2010 Gaza Freedom Flotilla raid where Israeli forces killed nine volunteers. Despite an Italian investigation into kidnapping and sexual assault, the US government continues to avoid accountability, according to GSF.

The torture with American-made tools is framed not as an anomaly but as the direct outcome of unconditional US support for a regime perpetrating war crimes and crimes against humanity
