Yamaha unveils a revolutionary handheld controller that provides complete boat control from anywhere onboard, increasing accessibility and safety. Compatible with the Helm Master EX system, the wireless controller offers intuitive operation and advanced safety features.

Yamaha has announced a new handheld controller that grants a captain complete control of a boat from any location onboard. This innovative device is seamlessly integrated with Yamaha 's Helm Master EX control system, a platform designed to enhance boating accessibility and user experience. The Helm Master EX Wireless Control, reminiscent of an advanced version of the Nintendo Wii's Nunchuk controller, made its debut at the 2025 Miami International Boat Show.

While eager boaters will have to wait until Fall 2025 for dealer installation, the exact pricing remains undisclosed. However, for single-engine boats, the complete system, including the wireless controller, represents a significant investment, exceeding $12,000. Yamaha initially introduced its modular Helm Master EX control system in 2020 as a solution to simplify boat operation, particularly for vessels with multiple engines. This comprehensive system encompasses both physical and touchscreen controls, offering the added flexibility of upgrading with an autopilot system. This feature enables the boat to maintain a predetermined position or follow a designated route. Furthermore, a joystick integrated into the system provides convenient throttle and steering controls, making maneuvering a breeze. The wireless remote promises to elevate the boating experience by empowering captains to operate their vessels with increased ease and independence. During critical maneuvers like launching or docking, captains can confidently navigate the boat with a single hand, freeing the other hand to secure lines or adjust fenders. The remote boasts an impressive battery life, estimated to last approximately eight hours, which can be extended by periodically docking it in a charging cradle. This cradle can be strategically positioned anywhere on the boat, ensuring uninterrupted operation. Designed for both functionality and safety, the remote is waterproof, buoyant, and incorporates a sophisticated system capable of detecting and responding to an individual going overboard. It establishes a connection with up to eight fobs, with two included in the system, worn by the captain and passengers. In the event of someone falling overboard, the boat will instantly come to a full stop and either idle or completely shut down its engines, depending on the specific circumstances. This proactive safety feature ensures that the boat remains under control and minimizes the risk of further harm. The innovative integration of the wireless controller with Yamaha's Helm Master EX system marks a significant advancement in boating technology. It empowers captains to operate their vessels with enhanced precision and flexibility while prioritizing safety and ease of use
