Machel Montano, the 'Michael Jackson of the Caribbean,' releases a new documentary that explores his four-decade career, from his humble beginnings to his current mission to globalize soca music. The film, co-directed by Bart Phillips and Che Khotari, takes a unique approach by focusing on a pivotal year in Montano's career, 2015, rather than recent nostalgia trends. Despite its triumphant tone, the documentary also delves into the darker moments of Montano's life and career, providing a well-rounded portrait of the soca legend.

Machel Montano , often hailed as the ' Michael Jackson of the Caribbean,' is making waves in the U.S. with the release of his new documentary, ' Machel Montano : The Evolution of Soca.

' Co-directed by Sunseeker Media's Bart Phillips and Montano's manager, Che Khotari, the film debuts just as the late Michael Jackson's influence continues to resonate. The documentary, however, takes a unique approach by revisiting 2015, a pivotal year in Montano's career, rather than delving into the recent 2016 nostalgia trend.

That year, Montano delivered an astonishing 16 high-energy performances across seven days during the Carnival season, which catapulted him to a Coachella mainstage appearance in 2016 and collaborations with international sensations like Ariana Grande and Ashanti. The documentary is not just a celebration of Montano's triumphs but also an honest exploration of his four-decade career, including darker moments such as the 2000 Real Unity concert stand collapse and personal battles with depression.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Montano began his musical journey at the age of 9, performing at Madison Square Garden. Over the years, he has won numerous awards, including the Soul Train Music Award for Best International Performance, and holds the record for the most Road March wins in Trinidad and Tobago. Now, with his sights set on globalizing soca music, Montano is currently on his Encore Tour, with upcoming shows in Central Park.

In an interview, Montano discusses the making of the documentary, his early career strategies, and his global collaboration aspirations
