AAA Alabama is offering free VIN etching at its offices across Alabama in October.
The process involves stenciling the VIN permanently and discreetly into the glass on all the windows of a vehicle.
Officials say if you have this etching done, you’re less likely to have your car stolen. If it is stolen, it’s more likely to be found. “We know from about 30 years of data that if you have this done to your vehicle, you’re 64% less likely to have your car stolen,” says AAA Alabama Spokesperson, Clay Ingram. “And if it is stolen, you’re 85% more likely to get it back.”The process takes about 10-15 minutes per vehicle, and is performed on one specific day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., by appointment only.
