A personal account of searching for the perfect fisherman sandals, with a focus on comfort, style, and packability.
I start every spring by searching for the perfect fisherman sandals . They're the ideal transitional shoe, covering parts of the feet when it's chilly but inviting spring with their airiness and versatility.
However, I've struggled to find a pair that fits my criteria: comfy, style-forward, and packable. This year, I'm determined to find a pair that can travel with me, walk distances, and be worn during the day and night. I tried out nine pairs, from chunky to classic to printed to jellies. The first pair I tried was from a Portuguese brand, made with a more artisanal element and a substantial sole that gives them a grounded feel.
The chocolate-brown color is beautiful, and the caged front with a bit more ankle coverage makes for a chic silhouette. However, they ran a little big, and I felt some digging on the sides after a couple of blocks. They seem like a pair that just needs a bit of breaking in. I also tried a pair from Madewell, which genuinely surprised me with both comfort and style.
The suede option gives them just enough of a twist, and the first thing I noticed was how lightweight they were, along with the subtle padding in the insole that makes them comfortable right out of the box. I wore them around the house and then to a school event, and they immediately gave off a Euro-vacation vibe. Fitwise, they run true to size.
I also tried a pair from Loeffler Randall, which are like sunshine in shoe form, thanks to the jelly and rhinestones. They're pretty lightweight and fit my narrow foot well, and while they don't offer the same level of support when walking, they far exceeded my expectations for a jelly fisherman sandal. I wore them walking out and about in the city and they fit me nicely, were comfortable, and made me feel very sparkly.
Finally, I tried a pair from Ancient Greek Sandals, which stood out immediately for how barely there they are. They're an ideal pack-and-go shoe, and despite the thin sole and minimal padding, they were such a breeze to walk in. They also cover more of the front of the foot than some of the other styles I tried, making them a smart in-between option for shifting seasons and especially great for Bay Area weather
