Charles Middle School in El Paso said students could not wear all black because of concerns with mental health and 'criminality,' but it later backpedaled.
An El Paso middle school that banned students from wearing black from head to toe has backpedaled, announcing Thursday that students are allowed to wear black-on-black, according to an El Paso Independent School District spokesperson. After receiving criticism for the initial dress code change, the school said the policy was just a recommendation because the district had not approved it. The matter will be discussed at a community meeting next month, the spokesperson said.
No body piercings or tattoos — but leggings? San Antonio school dress codes try to adapt. But the dress code change did not have the required district approval, the school said in a statement reported by USA Today. 'Unfortunately, the campus prematurely communicated the dress code change as a final decision rather than a recommendation. We regret the miscommunication, particularly the intent behind the changes,' the statement said.
