Charles Middle School has clarified its earlier ban on all-black outfits that angered some parents.
"I feel very comfortable with them wearing black. I’m wearing black right now," Sandra Meza - a former parent at the school said.
Some current and former parents at the school were confused by new rules handed down by Principal Nick DeSantis.One parent said the decision has already cost her money, and she wishes the School had asked parents before the change was made. "We already bought the black pants, so we have to buy again, the pants," Fabiola Flores said. "They should ask, they do like a ‘hey what do you think?’ like ‘we’re thinking about it!’""The decision was clearly an overreach," Executive Principal Sarah Venegas said. "And we have resolved it.
We spoke with one mental health professional who disputed the idea that mental health and clothing choice were directly linked. "I would say that mental health and depression they don’t have colors," Krista Wingate with Emergence Health said. "They don’t have outfits. They have other signs are really important to look for.""We would love to have mental health professionals be a part of those committees, especially when we’re considering things with mental health for students."
