SAFETY TIPSDEER CROSSINGTRAFFIC CRASHES

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is urging drivers to be cautious on the roads as deer-related accidents are more common during this time of year.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency ( ALEA ) is warning drivers about the dangers of driving around deer. Trooper Reginal King says it's not uncommon for ALEA to respond to traffic crashes involving deer, especially during this time of year. Troopers say no matter how short your trip is, make sure you are wearing a seat belt and be mindful that during this time there’s a higher chance of seeing a deer on the side of the road.

Troopers say deer sightings occur mainly during dusk and dawn hours and they do tend to dart across the road. Another tip to minimize the possibilities of an individual being involved in a traffic crash that involves a deer is simply just being aware. Minimizing the number of distractions that are inside and outside the vehicle,” Trooper King said. Troopers also say you should not swerve to avoid hitting a deer - that could cause you to lose control of your car and result in a more serious accident
