Cleveland Guardians minor league pitcher Aidan Major was hit in the face by a comebacker during a Single-A game, requiring hospital evaluation. The incident happened in the first inning against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. Major, who had posted a 3.10 ERA this season, reportedly gave a thumbs-up as he left. His father confirmed he was awaiting scan results but in stable condition. The Howlers won the game 5-4.
Cleveland Guardians pitching prospect Aidan Major was struck in the head by a line drive and forced to leave a minor league baseball game early on Tuesday.
The incident occurred during the top of the first inning when Major, pitching for the Single-A Hill City Howlers at their home stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia, faced Houston Astros third-base prospect Xavier Neyens. On a 2-0 pitch, Neyens hit a line drive directly back at the mound, leaving Major with no time to react. The ball hit Major in the cheek, causing him to collapse instantly.
He writhed in pain on the grass before medical personnel rushed out to provide first aid. Major was later helped onto a cart and taken for further evaluation. Reports indicate he flashed a thumbs-up to the crowd as he left the stadium. His father, Chad, posted on X Tuesday night, stating that his son was "doing well considering the scary event" and was still in the hospital awaiting scan results.
The younger Major, a former West Virginia college pitcher, had been performing well this season with a 3.10 ERA over 29 innings. Despite his early exit, the Howlers secured a narrow 5-4 victory over the Fayetteville Woodpeckers
