EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio - Residents at Forest Hill Terrace Apartments are still without mail delivery months after broken mailboxes halted service. Rutherford says everyone in the building now has to go to Cleveland Heights, where the mail is held.
Richard Newell tells 19 News he is a disabled veteran without a car, said he has to pay someone to drive him to Cleveland Heights to pick up his mail, which includes medication and bills.
“There’s no way for me to get me to the post office unless I pay someone to take me there,” Newell said. “They expect for us to give the rent every month. I expect for us to get the mail every day if I have some coming,” Mack said. Signs remain posted at the complex stating delivery was stopped due to the condition of the mailboxes.
After a story aired last month, management said new boxes were ordered but could not provide a timeline for installation. Restoring on-site mail delivery for our residents is our top priority, and we recognize the inconvenience this disruption has caused. New mailboxes have been ordered and will be immediately installed upon arrival.
We appreciate our residents’ patience as we work closely with our vendor and the Postal Service to resume on-site delivery as quickly as possible. 19 News reached out again to try and get a clear timetable for when the boxes will arrive or a plan to help tenants get their mail in the meantime. Replacement mailboxes have been ordered, and we are working through manufacturing and shipping delays outside of our control.
We have been in active discussions with the U.S. Postal Service to ensure that once the new mailboxes are installed, they meet all requirements for long-term, reliable service. In the meantime, residents have been provided with interim options to access their mail, and we appreciate their patience as we work to resolve this.
