CLEVELAND, Ohio - Piles of trash continue to accumulate along East 166th Street near St. Clair Avenue, prompting complaints from residents and frustration from city officials. Councilman Michael Polensek, the longest serving member of Cleveland City Council, said the dumping problem has persisted for two years.
Polensek represents Ward 10, which includes the affected street. “This is an ongoing problem for two years. We’ve been trying to get this street vacated through the mayor’s office of capital improvement and engineering,” Polensek said. Polensek inherited the street after redistricting and is now working to address the cleanup. The councilman said people dump trash directly from trucks onto the street. “As you can see this stuff just comes off the back of trucks. They just come down the street, empty it,” he said. Victor Metals, a Lake County business, recently purchased a large building on the street that previously housed Cyril Copper. The building has been vacant for decades. An on-site manager for Victor Metals is overseeing the retrofitting of the property.
