BARBERTON , Ohio — Police confronted a man Wednesday reportedly armed with “improvised explosive devices,” shutting down a city street for about two hours. A news release from the Barberton Police Department says the incident started at about 6:30 p.
m. near 30 N. Van Buren Ave., between East Ford Avenue and East Baird Avenue. Police say the suspect, Christopher Wilson, 38, of Akron, had a loaded firearm and also had the IEDs on him. Officers were able to take the firearm and “isolated” the IEDs, police say. The Summit County Bomb Squad was able to secure the explosives, police say. A section of North Van Buren Avenue was closed until 8:35 p.m. Wilson is being held in the Barberton City Jail on weapons and drug charges, police say.
