A man is accused of acting irrationally in the backyard of a South Philadelphia home before attacking a man who died from his injuries, police said.
Michael Piselli, 38, is accused of acting irrationally in the backyard of a South Philadelphia home before attacking and Santo Procopio, 78, in December of 2024.A man will be facing murder charges seven months after allegedly attacking a man inside a South Philadelphia home, according to a spokesperson with the Philadelphia Police Department.
This all unfolded on Monday, Dec. 2 when Michael Piselli, 38, was acting irrationally in the backyard of a house on the 2600 block of South 10th Street just before 7:30 p.m., police said.According to a witness who had initially called police, Piselli had gone into the house before locking the witness out and then attacked Santo Procopio, 78, officials said. The witness told investigators that they saw through a window as Piselli hit Procopio while he was laying on the flood of the kitchen, police explained. Piselli then ran away from the house.When officers got to the scene that day, they found Procopio with injuries to his head and face, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was first listed in critical condition before he died days later, on Dec. 14, from his injuries which included fractures and bleeding in his brain. The officers searched the area near the house and found Piselli, according to officials. He was arrested. The investigation is moving to the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit and officials expect that charges against Piselli will be upgraded to murder.
