) - The Jackson City Council appointed John Moore as the city’s next police chief Tuesday night after Chief Jerry Taylor announced his retirement. Moore brings an extensive law enforcement background to the position.
He served as a security police officer for the U.S. Air Force, attended the Los Angeles Police Academy and worked as a reserve officer. In Alabama, Moore has worked in Wilsonville, Montgomery, Foley and Thomasville. He joined the Jackson Police Department in 2014 and has served there since. The Jackson Police Department posted a statement on Facebook announcing Moore’s appointment and swearing-in during the city council meeting.
