The bell will now have a permeant located at the the Alaska Law Enforcement Officer Memorial.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A new bell rang last week during the annual Alaska Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony and will now have a permanent spot at the Alaska Law Enforcement Officer Memorial , thanks to an Anchorage teenager.
“This bell is in honor of all law enforcement who have given the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, to protect and serve,” Diane Peterson, the Alaska police and fire chief chaplain, said during the ceremony on May 20. “This year, we are very grateful to present a beautiful bell monument. This project was taken on by my granddaughter, Ce’nna.
” Since May 2025, 16-year-old Anchorage teenager Ce’nna Peterson-Robertson has raised nearly $25,000 for a new bell to be placed at the Alaska Law Enforcement Officer Memorial. Peterson-Robertson told Alaska’s News Source she received donations from the chaplaincy board, individual police officers and the Anchorage Police Department. Peterson-Robertson told Alaska’s News Source she was inspired by her grandmother, who raised her to make a difference in the community.
The idea for the bell, Peterson-Robertson said, stemmed after she realized they were scrambling year after year to find a bell to be used during the memorial services.
“Because without it, then we’re just going to keep stressing for years, and this is already very stressful momentum, and just taking less stress from it would be a lot better than having to stress,” Peterson-Robertson said. On May 20, the bell was used for the first time during the annual Alaska Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony, during which the bell was rung 69 times in honor of each fallen Alaskan law enforcement officer.
“It was just so special to me to see to be seeing my creation used for a good purpose, and to be used like what it was used for for the first time and it was amazing,” Peterson-Robertson said. “For families that aren’t always able to come to the ceremony, they can see the bell that was rung in remembrance of their loved one, which I think is also very special,” Peterson-Robertson said.
“No one is too young to reach out and make an impact on your community,” Peterson-Robertson said.
