Police say eight cars had their windshields or windows smashed during the incident, accruing tens of thousands in damage. A 54-year-old man was arrested Wednesday by Seattle police after witnesses reported seeing him smash the windows of eight cars in Pioneer Square .
Officers arrived to find several cars with their windshields and rear windows shattered. Witnesses told police that the suspect had walked from Occidental Park, using a tree branch and a wooden stake to damage the vehicles as he moved westbound on South Washington Street toward Alaskan Way S. The man was located shortly after at South Washington Street and Alaskan Way South, where he was arrested for eight counts of Malicious Mischief 2. Police collaborated with car owners who arrived at the scene to assess the damage and attempted to contact those who were not present. Officers recovered the tree branch believed to have been used to damage the cars, as well as a large wooden stake with glass shards embedded in it. The damage caused by the suspect is estimated to be nearly $20,000. Following his arrest, he was booked into the King County Jail.
