MrBeast’s Company Sued for Alleged Harassment and Wrongful Termination

A former MrBeast employee is suing the media production company, alleging sexual harassment, gender bias, and wrongful termination after returning from maternity leave. The lawsuit claims a toxic work environment and violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

A former employee of MrBeast’s media production company, Beast Industries, has filed a lawsuit alleging she was wrongfully terminated after returning from maternity leave. Lorrayne Mavromatis claims she endured years of sexual harassment and workplace gender bias during her employment.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in North Carolina, accuses MrBeastYouTube, LLC and GameChanger 24/7, LLC of violating the Family and Medical Leave Act, which protects employees’ job security during qualifying family and medical leave. Mavromatis detailed instances of being expected to work through labor and delivery, even while actively bleeding after childbirth.

She alleges a pervasive culture of misogyny within the company, referencing a 36-page employee guide that included statements like “It’s okay for the boys to be childish” and emphasized working excessive hours regardless of personal well-being. Beast Industries has vehemently denied the allegations, labeling the lawsuit a “clout-chasing complaint” filled with “deliberate misrepresentations and categorically false statements. ” The company asserts that Mavromatis’s position was eliminated during a team reorganization led by a new head of ecommerce.

They provided a Slack message exchange where a coworker questioned Mavromatis checking messages while in labor, and screenshots demonstrating she received the employee handbook containing FMLA policies. The company maintains it will not be pressured by opportunistic legal action. This lawsuit surfaces as MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is rapidly expanding his media empire, launching ventures into television with shows like “Beast Games” on Amazon Prime and financial services with the acquisition of the banking app Step.

Donaldson previously addressed concerns about company culture in an August 2024 email, stating his commitment to creating a safe and productive work environment for all employees. The allegations in Mavromatis’s lawsuit paint a stark contrast to the image Donaldson is cultivating as he gains prominence in mainstream entertainment. He has appeared at major events like the MTV Video Music Awards and partnered with companies like Salesforce.

Beast Industries has been actively hiring, bringing in executives from established media organizations like NBCUniversal and TikTok. The timing of the lawsuit is also notable, occurring just before Donaldson’s scheduled recognition as one of TIME magazine’s most influential people. Mavromatis, hired in August 2022 and promoted twice within a year, described feeling compelled to attend team meetings from her hospital bed during labor, fearing job loss if she didn’t participate.

She also recounted seeking advice from Donaldson’s cousin and then-CEO, James Warren, regarding Donaldson’s avoidance of eye contact with her. The case raises serious questions about the internal dynamics of a company built around one of YouTube’s most successful creators and the challenges of maintaining a positive workplace culture during rapid growth
