Grammy-winning singer Lizzo discusses her new Chili's campaign, featuring her version of the iconic 'Baby Back Ribs' jingle and a rib flute, and how her shift from veganism makes her the 'perfect' spokesperson for the meat-centric brand.

In a recent interview, Grammy-winning singer Lizzo discussed her new partnership with Chili's , for which she recorded a version of the iconic "Baby Back Ribs" jingle and starred in an over-the-top commercial featuring giant slabs of meat and her signature rib flute.

The campaign, released on May 27, marks a significant shift for the artist, who was a vocal advocate for veganism just a few years ago. Lizzo explained that after about three years of following a vegan diet, she announced in late 2024 that she had started consuming animal protein again.

She was initially nervous about how her followers would react, but felt it was important to be transparent to avoid confusion later, especially given the contrast between her past veganism and now promoting a meat-centric brand. She noted that her decision to become a spokesperson for Chili's was likely influenced by her Halloween costume last year, where she dressed as a Chili's mozzarella stick.

"I think they saw that and was like, 'OK, we have to do something with her,'" she said with a laugh. Lizzo described herself as a foodie at heart, saying that if she weren't a singer, she might be a mukbanger-a content creator who posts videos of themselves eating large amounts of food for entertainment. She cited Trisha Paytas as an early influence and emphasized that this campaign taps into her fun, love-to-eat side rather than any health advocacy.

For the commercial, Lizzo reimagined the "Baby Back Ribs" jingle with updated lyrics and her signature flute playing. The ad features her singing while recreating scenes from the original 1996 commercial before transforming a Chili's kitchen into a disco, dancing among line cooks and performing with a flute shaped like a rib. She researched previous versions by acts like *NSYNC and Boyz II Men to find her own angle.

"The *NSYNC version, I remember being like, 'Whoa. ' They made it a ballad, and they were shipwrecked, and they're like, 'I want my baby back,'" Lizzo recalled. "I said, 'OK, that's a really good angle. ' How do I turn it into ...

'Oh, you want your baby back? You gonna have to work hard to get that.

' I wrote the verse really quickly, and it just rolled off the tongue. It took, like, an hour.

" The jingle and an a cappella version are now available on YouTube. The collaboration comes less than two weeks ahead of her new album release
