After a prolonged wait of nearly three years, HBO's hit drama ' Euphoria ' has finally returned for its third season, but this time, it comes with a bittersweet twist: the season is widely expected to be the series' last.
The show, which premiered in 2019 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, faced numerous obstacles that delayed production, including the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in late 2023 and creator Sam Levinson's commitment to his short-lived series 'The Idol.

There were obvious factors - the strikes, trying to make a schedule work with our very in-demand cast, but the real time was in trying to figure out how to find a way to pay respect to those who we lost.
' He added, 'When Angus died, it was tough. I loved him deeply, and I fought hard to keep him clean. The year he died, in 2023, he was one of 73,000 people in America who died of a fentanyl overdose. I learned a whole lot that year, but what I realized more than anything is that death is what gives life meaning.
You can't be arrogant about existence. You're forced to reckon with the fact that life itself is a wonder, a gift, a profound blessing.
' The show also mourned the loss of another cast member, Tyler Chase, who died from ALS at age 53. His character, Cal Jacobs, appeared in two episodes of the new season, visibly experiencing the physical symptoms of his diagnosis. The Euphoria cast and crew have navigated these personal tragedies while trying to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series that follows troubled high school student Rue (Zendaya) as she struggles with addiction, mental illness, and toxic relationships.
The series, based on an Israeli show of the same name, has never shied away from exploring dark themes, and the final season continues that tradition. Zendaya, in a May 2026 appearance on 'The Drew Barrymore Show,' confirmed that the season would bring closure. When asked if it was the final season, she replied, 'I think so, yeah. That closure is coming.
' She described the experience as bittersweet, saying, 'This show is a massive part of - not just my career - but my life. It's been amazing and I'm so proud of being a part of this.
' Levinson, who has been working on the final episodes, told Variety, 'I'm treating every season like it's the last season. I want to finish this as strong as I can. I'm cutting 7 and 8 still. I'm putting some finishing touches.
I just want to deliver a fucking slam dunk season.
' The season has already aired several episodes, and fans are eagerly awaiting the finale, which is rumored to bring Rue's story full circle. As the series concludes, it leaves behind a legacy of raw storytelling, groundbreaking performances, and a reminder of the fragility of life.
