Cell phone extractions and DNA tests: this is what a FBI Safe Streets Task Force investigator says took Drexler Johnson’s charges from accessory after the fact to three counts of capital murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

GREENE COUNTY, Miss. - Cell phone extractions and DNA tests: this is what an FBI Safe Streets Task Force investigator says took Drexler Johnson ’s charges from accessory after the fact to three counts of capital murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

“At this point, we just have one individual who’s charged with capital murder, and that’s Drexler Johnson,” said Assistant District Attorney George Huffman of Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, “Again, the court heard the evidence, found that there’s probable cause, and we’re pursuing a prosecution against Drexler Johnson for capital murder. Three counts.”Photos were released by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office the day the crime was committed. The investigator on the stand testified that both the hat and ear muffs were recovered the day of the murders in an area between where the stolen vehicle was ditched and Johnson’s home. The investigator also said in his testimony that DNA evidence showed it was 1.2 billion times more likely that the sample from these items belonged to Drexler Johnson. “The court found that there was probable cause to show that Drexler Johnson committed these crimes, and it is going to go to a grand jury,” said District Attorney Angel McIlrath. “The grand jury is going to hear the case, and that’s the next step.” The investigator also testified that security footage from the gas station crime scene and nearby businesses shows the suspect, Drexler Johnson, crossing Hwy 42 near St. Charles and Main Street around 5:40 a.m. He walked behind the Dollar General before hiding behind air pumps at the gas station by 5:59. The murders took place shortly after. The weapon allegedly used in this crime was recovered in January.A photo of the same type of weapon was also found on Johnson’s phone, as well as a photo of an extended magazine clip. New information in this preliminary hearing, investigators revealed the suspect did reenter the gas station after committing the crimes, not only to steal a box of cigarettes, but he also attempted to open the cash register again before reloading the extended clip and shooting one of the victims several more times. “The families are incredibly strong, and we are committed, as we have been from day one,” McIlrath said, “Mr. Huffman and I have been on this from that very moment that it happened, and so we are committed to getting them justice. We are committing to getting the truth out there for the court and getting a conviction for the crime.” Now the prosecution is preparing for a potential death penalty case, and Johnson may have to face the consequences of these allegations.Drexler Johnson is still being held in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.Funeral home limo hit by a train while taking family of 6 to funeralHere’s what we know so far about the death of 6-year-old Gracelynn VickMobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson addresses the Downtown Mobile Alliance for the final time
