ASHFORD , Ala. - The Alabama Department of Transportation recently completed work on an intersection of Highway 84 in Ashford that now has stop signs and other safety features.

The city alerted residents of the change in a recent Facebook post. Some residents on the post think it improves safety, while others are skeptical that it is a ticket trap for police. Ashford Mayor Blake Rosenkoetter said that while the project was not the city’s doing, he is fully supportive of the change because safety is a top priority.

“Ultimately, it does make the intersection safer. And I did review the data a few months ago, and it did state that it would make the intersection up to 67% safer by doing it this way,” Rosenkoetter said.

“So, what we’re asking residents is to take those two or three extra seconds to stop, look, proceed with caution, because those two or three extra seconds could mean the difference between a fatality or a serious accident. So, we think that’s time well spent. ”Download the WTVY News4 app to get alerts and stories the moment they are published.
