Georgina Baillie Calls Off Engagement to Rusty Egan Due to Age Gap; Other Entertainment Updates
Georgina BaillieRusty EganEngagement Split

Georgina Baillie, granddaughter of Andrew Sachs, ends engagement with Rusty Egan citing age difference and divergent life paths. Plus: Martha Sitwell and Kimi Murdoch's bad advice podcast, Eton Head Master race, Nigel Planer on theatre rudeness, and Lexi Jones' phone theft.

Georgina Baillie , the granddaughter of the late Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs , has called off her engagement to Rusty Egan , the 68-year-old co-founder of the New Romantic band Visage.

The couple, who announced their engagement just before Christmas, have split due to the challenges of their age difference. Baillie, 40, explained that while she still adores Egan, their life paths diverged; she is focused on building her own empire and launching an online recovery and addiction show called 'Hope', whereas Egan is looking to retire to the seaside. She returned the engagement ring, which featured a large sapphire, a few months ago.

The pair remain close and continue to work together on Egan's live show, Sound And Vision. Egan reflected on their 18 months together with fondness, noting the ring now sits on his desk and calling the time with Baillie 'wonderful'. This split marks another chapter in Baillie's tumultuous personal history, which includes a past scandal involving comedian Russell Brand, who paid for her rehabilitation after the 'Sachsgate' incident where he and Jonathan Ross left obscene messages on her grandfather's answerphone.

Baillie has been sober for six years as of February and is channeling her experience into her new project. In other entertainment news, Martha Sitwell and Kimi Murdoch, known for their fiery dynamic on the Bravo reality series Ladies of London, are launching a podcast where they plan to give deliberately bad advice.

The pair, who once exchanged memorable insults such as 'I love you, but you are a psychotic b****,' describe their approach as a mix of empathy and straight talk. Their podcast will invite callers seeking guidance, whom they aim to help with their own brand of clueless yet entertaining counsel. Sitwell, a former baronet's wife, and Murdoch, a US-Haitian antiques dealer who co-parents twins, are set to bring their unorthodox rapport to a new medium.

Meanwhile, the search for a new Head Master at Eton College is underway following Simon Henderson's announced departure. Sir Nicholas Coleridge, currently the school's Provost and a former magazine executive, is known to have remarked that an Eton education 'counted against' those who hadn't attended it, raising eyebrows among observers. A leading candidate appears to be Alastair Chirnside, the headmaster of St Edward's School, which was visited by the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2024.

Chirnside, an Old Etonian with an Oxford background in Classics and French, is seen as the top choice, with supporters hoping he remains until at least 2033. Actor Nigel Planer, famous for playing hippie Neil in The Young Ones, has voiced frustration over disrespectful theatre audiences. On his new storytelling tour, Young Once, Planer noted that some audience members use mobile phones, film performances, and even eat strong-smelling takeaways during shows, which is 'massively distracting' for actors.

While he praised audiences at smaller venues on his current tour, he called out the entitlement displayed by some in larger theatres. Planer's comments highlight ongoing tensions between performers and audience etiquette in the digital age.

Finally, David Bowie's daughter Alexandria 'Lexi' Jones reported that her phone was stolen during a night out in Queens, New York. The incident is a stark contrast to her father's deep affection for New York City, where he lived from 1999 until his death in 2016 and found significant creative peace. Jones, whose mother is model Iman, expressed her frustration over the theft, underscoring a more challenging personal experience with the city compared to her father's storied relationship with it
