Gareth Edwards' original sci-fi film The Creator, which did not immediately find its audience, is leaving Netflix on June 20. The story, set in a future war between humanity and AI, follows a former soldier's mission to destroy a weapon that turns out to be a child-like AI. The movie stars John David Washington, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, and Amar Chadha-Patel.
Some science fiction films do not receive the acclaim they perhaps deserve upon initial release. The genre, more than any other, is frequently associated with the term "cult hit," likely because science fiction explores ideas that often require time to be fully processed, rather than instantly comprehensible.
This was the case for Gareth Edwards three years ago, when he poured his heart and soul into his original sci-fi movie, only to find that audiences were not quite ready for it. However, if you feel prepared now, you should act quickly. The Creator will depart Netflix on June 20, making this the ideal time to experience Edwards' visually stunning sci-fi epic.
Set in a future where humanity is at war with artificial intelligence, the film follows Joshua, a former special forces agent recruited to hunt down a mysterious weapon believed to have the power to end the war. His mission drastically shifts when he discovers that the weapon is actually a young child powered by artificial intelligence.
The Creator features John David Washington (Tenet) as Joshua, a soldier drawn back into the conflict; Madeleine Yuna Voyles as Alphie, the young AI at the heart of the struggle; Gemma Chan (Eternals) as Maya, Joshua's wife; Allison Janney (I, Tonya) as Colonel Howell, a hardened military commander; Ken Watanabe (Godzilla) as Harun, an AI resistance leader; Sturgill Simpson (Queen & Slim) as Drew, Joshua's former comrade; and Amar Chadha-Patel (The Wheel of Time) as Omni, one of the film's AI entities
