A Pine Belt lawmaker has proposed a bill that would bring state-funded pre-K program to every district in the state by the 2029-2030 school year
.
Currently, about 40-plus school districts offer the state funded pre-K programs, according to the nonprofit education policy and advocacy organization, “Mississippi First.” McCarty is proposing a bill that would require the Mississippi Department of Education to start phasing in pre-K programs to all 137 school districts across the state.
“Early childhood is where it’s at, in that giving children an equal opportunity to be ready for kindergarten, give them a universal playing field,” said Jenny.
