Tampa has been selected as the host city for the College Football Playoff national championship game on January 22, 2029, replacing Dallas , according to a report by Action Network's Brett McMurphy. Dallas will be unable to host in 2029 due to a scheduling conflict, McMurphy reports. This marks a significant shift as AT&T Stadium in Arlington, home to the Dallas Cowboys, hasn't hosted a national championship game since January 12, 2015, the inaugural year of the College Football Playoff .
In that championship game, future Dallas Cowboy Ezekiel Elliott led the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes to a victory over the No. 2 Oregon Ducks. Tampa previously hosted the 2017 championship game, where Clemson defeated Alabama at Raymond James Stadium. Although Dallas will miss out on hosting in 2029, AT&T Stadium has been a prominent venue for College Football Playoff semifinal games, having hosted five matchups in total. Most recently, the stadium hosted the Cotton Bowl, a thrilling semifinal game between Texas and Ohio State, on January 10, 2025. The other future national championship sites, as previously reported in May, include Las Vegas (January 25, 2027), New Orleans (January 24, 2028), and Miami (January 21, 2030).
