Los Angeles will play a role in America's big 250th birthday celebration this Fourth of July.
On Thursday, the nonpartisan America250 commission announced the first five host cities for a block party spanning coast to coast. The host cities are Charleston, South Carolina, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, New York City and Los Angeles.
A family-friendly concert is planned at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, as well as a "fan fest event" that will include unnamed musical arts, patriotic tributes and a livestream. Headlining talent is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.A new version of the Kool & The Gang classic "Celebration" will be rolled out as part of what organizers call "America's soundtrack." The headlining moment of the nationwide celebration will be a first-ever Times Square ball drop on July 3.
