A traffic stop for speeding in Batesville early Saturday led to the arrest of a man wanted on multiple warrants and the seizure of a handgun, according to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office.
BATESVILLE, Texas - The sheriff’s office said Sgt. V. Alvizo stopped a red 2017 Ram pickup at about 6:51 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026, after clocking it at 54 mph in a 40 mph zone.
The driver, identified as Keonte Dwayne Hogan, provided documentation and told Alvizo there were no weapons in the vehicle, the release said. A background check through Crystal City Communications showed Hogan was wanted out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area on multiple active warrants, including assault impeding breath/circulation and interference with emergency phone call , the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies said that during a routine inventory of the vehicle prior to towing, they found a Taurus .380 ACP handgun hidden inside the center console. Deputy J. Jimenez arrived to assist, and Garcia’s Wrecker Service impounded the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. Hogan was transported to the Zavala County Jail for booking.
