Through partnership and community support, Enterprise police was able to find and save a young life, something the department says they are more than grateful for.
DOTHAN, Ala. - Enterprise police are extending their massive thanks to the Wiregrass law enforcement community following Tuesday night’s multi-agency search for a missing 9-year-old boy. Police began their search for Zachary Kyker at around 4:30 p.
m. on January 27, with surveillance video near the child’s home on County Road 750 showing him running into a wooded area after being dropped off by a school bus. From that point on, it became the mission not just of Enterprise Police Department, but of several local agencies to ensure this child was found safe during what was going to become a very cold evening and night, with temperatures dropping from the low 40s to just into the upper 20s during the seven-and-a-half hour search. Ultimately, Kyker was indeed located safe right around midnight, with the 9-year-old found hiding in a shed near County Road 702. Joining EPD’s Search and Rescue Team as part of main operations was the Dale County Sheriff’s Office WASP unit. EPD Search and Rescue quickly established grid searches throughout the area, while DCSO’s WASP unit provided aerial support.
