Lawrence Specker, al.com This young Alabama singer has enjoyed a meteoric rise to country-music fame in the last year, and now she’s branching out with a rap collaboration. This week, Hope Hull native Ella Langley and Texas rapper BigXthaPlug have shared snippets of a soon-to-be released single titled “Hell at Night.
” It’ll be a track on his album “I Hope You’re Happy,” which is due for Aug. 22 release. BigXthaPlug shared a snippet of the song on Tiktok, and so has Langley. BigXthaPlug also has posted the clip on other platforms including YouTube. In the clips, BigXthaPlug raps a curse that may come off more humorously in the song than it does in print: “I hope you turn your heater on and it blow cold/ I hope you leave your car runnin’ at the store and it gets stole/ I hope you have a nightmare every single day of your life/ I hope you have a bad morning/ and one hell of a night.” People are also reading… Langley then sings, “I hope it’s hell at night/ straight through the morning/ hope you close your eyes/ just can’t ignore it/ ‘cause it’s too damn loud/ tossin’ and turnin’/ Hope it’s hell at night/ my memory’s burnin’.” It’s a big step out for Langley, whose 2024 album “Hungover” turned into an award-winning blockbuster, thanks in part to her Riley Green duet “You Look Like You Love Me.” But she’s already shown some willingness to veer out of the straight-country lane. “That’s Why We Fight,” her duet with Koe Wetzel, straddles a line between country and hard rock, and sounded more like the latter when she performed it live at the Sand in My Boots festival in Gulf Shores. As for BigXthaPlug, Billboard.com noted that he has had hits collaborating with Shaboozey and Bailey Zimmerman; performed at the Stagecoach Music Festival, one of the nation’s top-tier country festivals; and received the “innovator of the year” award at Billboard’s “Country Power Players” event.
