Springs was sublime, holding the Yankees hitless through 6.1 innings before Ben Rice’s single broke up the no-hit bid. He spun seven shutout innings with six strikeouts and two walks, outdueling Yankees starter Ryan Weathers, who put forth a gem of his own with one run and seven hits allowed in eight innings of work with seven strikeouts and zero walks. Through the first three innings, neither team could generate much offense. Weathers remained locked in, working out of minor trouble as Oakland began to piece together better at-bats. Max Muncy and Lawrence Butler each contributed hits to keep pressure on, but Weathers continued to escape, keeping the game scoreless into the later innings. Meanwhile, the Yankees’ offense never found its footing. Amed Rosario showed patience with two walks, and Rice collected the team’s only hit of the game, but New York failed to string anything together. Aaron Judge, Cody Giancarlo Bellinger, and Stanton were all held hitless. The game’s defining moment came in the top of the seventh inning. After reaching base, Muncy came around to score when Soderstrom delivered an RBI single to right field, giving Oakland a 1-0 lead, the only run of the game. From there, Oakland’s bullpen took over. Justin Sterner and Hogan Harris combined to shut the door over the final two innings, preserving the shutout and securing the win.
