As part of a class action settlement, Comcast set aside $117.5 million to pay claims by Xfinity customers who were alerted to the data breach in mid-December 2023. On Tuesday, the telecommunications giant released deadlines for people to submit claims, opt out of the settlement, or object to it. However, potential recipients who do not act by those dates will not receive benefits, nor will they be able to file a claim at a later date, the company stated.
Here are the deadlines provided in the Comcast statement:
Nearly 36 million Xfinity customers may have been affected by the incident, according to a filing by Comcast to the Office of the Maine Attorney General. The company indicated it discovered the breach on October 25, 2023, during a 'routine cybersecurity exercise,' and blamed the incident on a Citrix vulnerability, a FOX Business reported at the time. Comcast’s statement noted that the settlement is subject to court approval.
