Avengers: Doomsday: A Transposition of X-Men and Time Travel

Avengers: Doomsday is a Marvel Cinematic Universe film that is set to recreate the magic of the critically acclaimed X-Men movie X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The X-Men are coming to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe via Avengers: Doomsday , and the upcoming film is going to recreate one of the best X-Men movies Fox ever made.

Several of the actors who played the X-Men in Fox's superhero franchise have been confirmed as part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, including Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and James Marsden, among others. Over 20 years, Fox made 13 X-Men movies in total, including three centered around Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and two centered around Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool. There were some very notable variations in quality over the years.

Installments like The New Mutants and Dark Phoenix spring to mind as the worst of Fox's X-Men films, while Logan and X-Men: First Class received quite a bit of praise. Arguably the best full-scale X-Men movie Fox ever made, however, was X-Men: Days of Future Past. Adapting an iconic comic arc of the same name, Days of Future Past united the modern-day and prequel X-Men actors for a massive time-traveling mission to prevent the Sentinels from destroying mutantkind.

It was a massive success both critically and commercially, and now, Disney seems to be following in Fox's lead and trying to recreate the magic of Days of Future Past. Avengers: Doomsday Is Both A Farewell & Reboot Of The X-Men, Just Like Days of Future Past One of the best things about X-Men: Days of Future Past was what it represented for Fox's X-Men franchise.

Fox had tried to softly reboot the X-Men in 2011 with X-Men: First Class, a prequel film with new actors like James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender brought in to play younger versions of the earlier films' characters. It wasn't until Days of Future Past, however, that the soft reboot really took hold. There are two main X-Men movie timelines that are separated by Days of Future Past.

The original includes the first three X-Men movies, while the rebooted timeline includes X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. Thanks to the film's time travel and Wolverine's mission to undo the event that created the Sentinels and threatened mutantkind, Days of Future Past acted as a reboot for Fox's X-Men. Days of Future Past wasn't just a way to reboot X-Men and focus solely on the younger characters, though; it was also a farewell to the original X-Men films.

Days of Future Past gave the original X-Men timeline a happy conclusion, it finished much of the story the first three X-Men movies had started, and it even had some great character moments for the original actors, such as Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy speaking to each other. Avengers: Doomsday is already shaping up to have the same effect on Fox's X-Men franchise that Days of Future Past did.

Doomsday will have to act as a soft reboot of some kind as the X-Men timeline smashes into the MCU's timeline and the X-Men themselves begin their new era as part of the MCU at large. Doomsday is also bringing back several original X-Men actors instead of their younger counterparts, which is the exact reverse of what Days of Future Past did.

Additionally, the few available plot details about Avengers: Doomsday also seem to align with Days of Future Past. Both movies are going to feature separate timelines colliding, both will deal with time travel to some degree, and both will be focused on massive team-ups of superheroes.

For all intents and purposes, Avengers: Doomsday is hitting all the same notes that Days of Future Past did, and it looks like it'll usher in a new era of X-Men stories the same way as well. Doomsday's Similarities To Days of Future Past Are A Great Sign Avengers: Endgame's similarities to X-Men: Days of Future Past aren't just a fun fact, they're a really good sign for the upcoming movie.

As previously mentioned, Days of Future Past is widely considered one of the best X-Men movies Fox ever made. It had a huge order to fill of rebooting the timeline, managing a convoluted plot extensively based on time travel, and beginning a new era of X-Men movies, and it handled it all exceptionally well.

Posts By Sean Morrison If Avengers: Endgame is following the example Days of Future Past set, that may help the movie succeed.

Doomsday is as much a soft reboot for the MCU as it is for Fox's X-Men, what with the return of Steve Rogers and the influx of new characters. It has just as difficult a task as Days of Future Past did, but it can hopefully also replicate the earlier movie's smarter decisions and usher in a new age of the MCU just as gracefully.

Days of Future Past is also basically a blueprint for how to do a time travel film well and how to convey heady sci-fi concepts in a way that's easy to understand. That will be crucial for Avengers: Doomsday, considering how much the film will be exploring the idea of the multiverse, time travel, and variations of old characters from different realities. Hopefully, Doomsday will be just as adept as Days of Future Past at making its sci-fi elements seamless.

Doomsday's similarities to Days of Future Past is also a great sign for the X-Men's first foray into the MCU. Of all the Fox X-Men movies to model Doomsday after, Days of Future Past is arguably the best. It had the most complete understanding of the characters and the franchise's penchant for time travel, after all. Avengers: Doomsday could end up inheriting some really great qualities from X-Men: Days of Future Past.
