PASCAGOULA , Miss. — After a man tried exploding propane tanks at Jackson County ’s 911 communications tower then died in a shootout with deputies, video that captured the chaotic gun battle has been obtained by WLOX News.
The video was taken by a man outside the courthouse. It starts just minutes after 59-year-old David Wyrick crashed a stolen Chevy Silverado into the perimeter fence of a communications tower near the Jackson County Emergency 911 Operations Center. Wyrick then opened the valve of a propane tank in the back of the truck and ignited the expelling gas, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Here’s what we know about the man who tried to set off an explosion outside the Jackson County courthouse At the start of the video, deputies are engaged in gunfire with Wyrick, who investigators say was armed with a handgun. Deputies can be heard shouting for Wyrick to “drop the gun.” On the left of the frame, a woman takes cover behind a grey truck.
In the video, Wyrick runs west of the perimeter fence and takes cover between parked vehicles before more rounds are exchanged. Deputies are seen rushing towards Wyrick while gunfire continues.In the midst of the mayhem, a detective runs over to the woman hiding from the gunfire and helps her run away from the chaos as more deputies arrive on scene.
