DOTHAN, Ala. - Director of the Dothan Houston County Library System Chris Warren , joined News4 This Morning to talk the latest Chapter Chat. The tragic love story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, which dives deep into the dark realities of obsessive love and jealousy, has long become a staple to classrooms that explore its importance as a literary masterpiece.
“I think that, especially if you read it while you were in school for required reading, it’s definitely good to go back and revisit it,” Warren said. “Betrayal is sort of central to the entire plot. But again, it’s a very dark, very passionate novel.” Soon, this dark, atmospheric tale will be hitting the silver screen when Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi take on the roles of Catherine and Heathcliff for the latest film adaptation of the novel. “I’ll admit, librarians love it when a book is made into a movie because that means that more people are going to start reading it,” Warren said. “I’ll admit, I’m pretty excited about that screen adaptation. But librarians do make a point to kind of keep track of trends in reading and what’s popular with our audiences. “If we notice that a lot of people seem to be drawn to something because there’s a movie coming out, we’ll purchase more copies so that people can read those.” If you have plans to get to the theater this month to see this latest adaptation, you definitely should find time to swing by your local library to revisitYou can check out this literary classic and any other books by visiting any of the Dothan Houston County Library System locations or by downloading copies through Libby.
