Deputies responded to the area of Willow Brooke Drive and Willow View Court for reports of 10 juveniles in the street fighting
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A 13-year-old boy is under arrest and accused of firing a gun in a Liberty Township neighborhood over the weekend, according to Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.The teen was charged with improper discharge of a firearm in a or near a habitation/school zone, a felony, juvenile court records show.
“These are the times we live in. It’s extremely sad when kids have firearms, and people die because they have these firearms. We are very fortunate here,” the sheriff said Monday.It happened in the area of Willow Brooke Drive and Willow View Court in the Wynds of Liberty neighborhood near Princeton Road about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, a sheriff’s spokeswoman confirms.The fight occurred in the 6400 block of Willow Brooke Drive, court records show. The teen is accused of producing a handgun and firing a shot “towards the fight,” according to his complaint. “The location was a residential neighborhood with houses on both sides of the street,” the complaint states.Deputies and the Hamilton Police Department’s K-9 responded and searched the area, sheriff’s officials say. Deputies also collected witness statements from neighbors in the area and started checking homes for video surveillance. Some of the juveniles were found in the area and transported to the sheriff’s Liberty Township substation off Ohio 747. Deputies collected witness statements, and parents responded, according to the sheriff’s office.The teen also lives in Liberty Township. He was held overnight at the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center and made his first court appearance in the case Monday morning, court records show.Butler County Juvenile Court Magistrate Patricia A. Wilkerson ordered the teen to remain at the detention center and participate in school while there, as provided through the Butler County Educational Services Center, court records show. Tuition responsibility will be with the Lakota School District, which is the district where the parent resides, according to the court order. The teen was also placed on court monitoring and ordered to obey all laws and not be charged with any new offenses during this period of court monitoring. He also cannot have contact of any kind with any “alleged co-defendants” and “alleged victims,” court records show.
