WESTLAKE, Ohio - The Westlake Police Department dispatch received an alert on April 9 from the city of Westlake to check on a 91-year-old resident.
According to police, the alert came from the Confirm OK system, formerly known as the “Are You Okay?” as a check-in service to conduct welfare checks on subscribed residents. When dispatch attempted to call the 91-year-old resident, she still did not answer. After calling her daughter and learning that the woman should be home, officers were dispatched, and became more alarmed when she did not answer the door.
Westlake Police said after speaking to neighbors and seeing that her vehicle was in the garage, the officers used the garage code to gain access to her residence even further. When officers located the woman inside, they discovered she missed the attempts to contact her because she was inside playing video games.
Officers reported that the thankful resident was playing a “Bubble Pop” game and was trying to beat her record level. Westlake Police said this is a reminder to the Westlake community that the voluntary service is used to make welfare checks for loved ones, and can even save lives.
