A San Antonio man who police say admitted to killing his girlfriend because she didn’t want to have a baby with him has been sentenced to prison. Adam Byrd , 25, was sentenced to 40 years in prison by Judge Christine Del Prado on Monday.
Byrd pleaded no contest to all charges. Prado found him guilty of one count of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of murder. Bryd was given two years in prison for the drug charge, 15 years for each aggravated robbery charge and 40 years for the murder of his girlfriend, 22-year-old Jade Alvarez. Each sentence will be served concurrently. He must serve half his sentence before he is eligible for parole. READ MORE: SAPD officer shoots, kills man wielding a machete on West Side Alvarez’s body was found dead on April 6, 2023, by an officer patrolling the 1000 block of Capitol Avenue in Beacon Hill. Her dead body was lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds. Several days later, a witness told police that they had dropped off Alvarez on Capitol Avenue to meet with Byrd hours before her body was discovered, an affidavit supporting Byrd’s arrest said. On April 12, 2023, investigators learned that Byrd had been arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery. When detectives interviewed him, he admitted to killing Alvarez using the same gun he used in the aggravated robbery, according to SAPD. He told investigators he asked Alvarez to meet him at Capitol Avenue, where the two argued, SAPD said. Byrd wanted to have a baby, and Alvarez did not, the affidavit said. Byrd was booked for murder, and his bail was set at $250,000.
