There are several temporary road closures in downtown Cleveland on Monday morning due to filming.
CLEVELAND , Ohio - Several downtown Cleveland streets were closed intermittently Monday morning as a production crew took over the area for filming. E. Roadway from Euclid to Superior Parking restrictions were also in place on Euclid Ave. from 9th St. to Public Square and 9th St. from Superior to Euclid.
Public Square was transformed into a full-fledged film set, according to people walking downtown.
“We were going on a morning walk, stumbled across this, but it’s awesome I’m glad it’s happening,” said Caden Ryan, who walked into the film set with Ella Vanweelden. Greater Cleveland Film Commission President Bill McGarvey said the production is another example of industry growth in northeast Ohio. While McGarvey was not allowed to confirm what was filming downtown, signs point to the new Hulu series titled “The Land.
” On April 14, Angela Boehm Casting posted a call on Facebook for extras available to film Monday and Tuesday.
“There’s 38 in the U.S. states that offer production incentives, and Ohio is one of them,” McGarvey said. “We compete very well with other regions and it’s not necessarily about the great architecture, that’s secondary, believe it or not, that production incentive is what they choose first,” he said. According to the Ohio Department of Development, “The Land” received just over $800,000 from that incentive.
McGarvey said the production is creating jobs, driving economic development, and shining a spotlight on northeast Ohio.
“Cleveland is a beautiful city and people don’t realize it, so it will be cool to see it on the screen no matter the project,” Ryan said.
