WAYNE COUNTY , Ohio - The Whispering Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary rescued six horses Friday after the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the Wayne County Dog Warden asked them to remove the horses from their former owner.

The Medina sanctuary was first contacted by Wayne County agencies at 3 p.m. and arrived at the horses at 5 p.m. The Whispering Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary rescued six horses Friday after the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the Wayne County Dog Warden asked them to remove the horses from their current owner. From the sanctuary, the horses were described as living in “unimaginable conditions,” with bodies “little more than skin stretched over bones.

” The horses had overgrown hooves and teeth left in terrible condition, which rescuers say make it difficult for them to eat. Rescuers were shocked to discover the horses were gentle toward them despite living in terrible conditions.

“When we arrived, they walked right up to us. They rested their heads on our shoulders as if they had been waiting for someone to finally come,” Whispering Acres wrote on Overnight, the animals were able to be fed and sheltered, but rescuers say the horses remain in need of medical treatment. Whispering Acres told 19 News that there will be a page on their website dedicated to raising funds for these horses because of a large community response.

“So many of you have stepped forward to help these horses, and we cannot even begin to express how much that means to us,” Whispering Acres wrote. Anyone interested in helping Whispering Acres with medical expenses is encouraged to visit that page to learn how to help the horses. Their Facebook post include information on how to donate as well.
