Judge takes case under advisement after prosecutors accuse Warren Houston of shifting blame to ex-girlfriend
CINCINNATI - A Roselawn father is one step closer to a verdict after both sides delivered closing arguments in his bench trial for the dog mauling death of his 3-year-old daughter. Closing arguments are now complete in the Warren Houston trial, and Hamilton County Judge Virginia Tallent has taken the case under advisement.
A verdict is expected Friday. During closing arguments, prosecutors recalled Ada Colbert, Warren Houston’s ex-girlfriend who was inside the apartment the night of the attack. Prosecutors say Houston tried to shift blame onto Colbert during his own testimony last Friday.On Dec. 27, 2024, Houston’s two pit bull terriers escaped their cage and mauled 3-year-old Kingsley Wright, who was asleep on the couch just feet away. Houston and Colbert were asleep in a bedroom down the hall with the door closed.A central focus of the trial was the cage the dogs were kept in. Houston called it rickety. Prosecutors called it defective, with a broken bottom latch and bent wiring. They argue Houston knew the cage was faulty, knew his dogs were aggressive and chose to do nothing about it. The defense countered that this was a tragic accident Houston could not have foreseen, pointing out the dogs had never escaped when the top latch was properly secured.Prosecutors pushed back, accusing Houston of trying to shift blame onto Colbert during his testimony last Friday.
