One-on-one interviewFrankie Vernouski, the team’s broadcaster and manager of parks, said opening day still carries a special feeling.'It’s like being a small child waiting for Christmas morning to finally roll around,' Vernouski said. 'Opening day is always a wonderful day.'Vernouski said the early success reflects a roster filled with players who already have experience at the Double-A level.'What this roster really features is a lot of guys who have been here at the level and gained valuable experience,' he said. 'Those are often the guys we see in year two or year three back here that they really take off.'He also said the start of the season is the result of months of preparation, with many players reporting to spring training in Florida by late January.'It just takes so much time for their bodies to get ready,' Vernouski said. 'When you’re playing every day and working out every day and really pushing your body every day, it adds up.'For Vernouski, the home opener also marked another moment in what he described as a lifelong dream. A Central Pennsylvania native, he said he grew up attending games on City Island and always hoped to one day broadcast baseball on the radio.'The fact that I’m here now, getting the chance to call all the games, it really is a dream come true,' he said. With the Senators off to a fast start and anticipation building around the club, the home opener served as both a celebration of baseball’s return to the Susquehanna Valley and a hopeful sign of what may be ahead this season.
