CBS Austin has a crew in Corpus Christi coverage tropical system Beryl , that is expected to make landfall overnight Sunday. Reporter Abigail Velez and photojournalist Riley Griffin arrived to the Texas coast at about noon Saturday.
Upon arrival, Velez and Griffin walked along the coast where the waters remained calm throughout the day. The crew spoke to residents along the water who were going about business as usual; many of them enjoying a "beach day" of swimming and fishing in the water off the Gulf Coast. Velez spoke to people enjoying their day on the water; some said they were afraid of Beryl, while others said they didn't expect it to be hectic. As Velez and Griffin drove into the residential areas near the coast-- homeowners and business owners were boarding up their windows in preparation of strong winds and flying debris. Some of them also said they didn't expect Beryl to hit hard but said they would "rather be safe, than sorry."Just hours ago, Corpus Christi was supposed to be in the eye of the storm but as of Saturday evening, that is no longer. The CBS Austin crew in Corpus plans to speak to city officials Sunday, and residents of the city on how they are preparing for Beryl's impacts Sunday night.
