BEACHWOOD , Ohio - Tenants at The Vantage apartment complex are reporting gas bills that jumped from less than $20 to hundreds of dollars, prompting some residents of the 700-unit complex to contact 19 News for help.
Residents say they are concerned about the sudden increases in gas bills, lack of heat and cold water.“I went over to the office to talk to them about it and they didn’t give me much of an explanation, just that I have to pay it,” Mone said. “The increase is $282 for myself.”“My most expensive bill for gas to date was $13.60 and that was in December of 2025,” Kuculko said. “This month it was $131.50. That is a 1,000 percent increase.”“This past month, my bill was $439,” Santos said. “Again they were not able to explain that bill to me thoroughly, was not able to show me any proof that those charges were from usage from my unit.” When 19 News Troubleshooters arrived at the complex office, an office worker declined to comment. Her manager came from another office and asked the news crew to leave the property. “Ma’am, how are you? I’m fine. I’m going to have to ask you to leave. It’s private property. These are paying tenants. I understand, and we can speak with them individually, but not with the news. The problem is nobody is speaking with them individually. That’s why I’m here.” Mone spoke with the manager after the news crew left. She said the manager told her they were looking into the issue and hoped gas numbers would be down by June, but provided no concrete numbers. Tenants said they are concerned about possible retaliation for speaking up.
