An Anchorage family aims to bring awareness to domestic violence this Saturday during a USA Track and Field Alaska Association track meet.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Hoping to bring awareness and support for people impacted by domestic violence after their friend was killed in 2022, two Anchorage sisters — Holly Dittman, 16, and Sarah Dittman, 18 — have formed a fundraising partnership with the DOME and USA Track and Field Alaska Association’s “In 2022, we lost a very close friend to our family from domestic violence, her and her mother.

Jayla and Raechyl Blackshear” Holly Dittman said. “You wouldn’t ever have guessed, that they would be struggling with that. So, it’s important for, not only us, not only for our family, to constantly be thinking of it.” An Anchorage family aims to bring awareness to domestic violence this Saturday during a USA Track and Field Alaska Association track meet.— Jayla’s father was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, incest, tampering with physical evidence, and forgery. As of this article’s publication, he has not been convicted on any of the charges. Holly said she met Jayla when she transferred to her elementary school in 6th grade. From there, she said, the two of them just clicked. “She was very important to me,” Holly Dittman said. “She was very smiley and happy. And was laughing with us and loved to play games. And run with us too. And behind our house, we had this kind of gravel road trail ... and she would just love to run on it.” Running track, the Dittman sisters noted, was a big part of Jayla’s life, saying she dreamed of running in high school and winning. “She just loved track,” Holly said. “The thought of being able to just run freely and express herself.” “I was really excited to run with her,” Sarah Dittman, who runs track in high school, said. “She didn’t have a chance to compete, so I thought it’d be cool to put together a track meet in her honor and all the profits are going to AWAIC.”“I always try to compete as hard as I can, but this is going to be a special cause and I’m going to, you know, focus on honoring her in my jumps,” Sarah said. “I’m not a good track runner,” Holly said. “I’ll try to laugh as much and smile as much as I can for Jayla so that she can enjoy it too.”“Because she didn’t get to, so I think it’s very important that not only us get to live our lives but so does she,” Holly said. “It’s just kind of a little thing we can carry her in our heart. And that she can also experience as much as she can.” The first event on Saturday starts at 10:30 a.m. and the last event is expected to end at around 5 p.m. Those interested in participating in the meet will need to If you are facing threatened or actual domestic violence, please discreetly call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis in Anchorage at 907-272-0100.Anchorage police investigate 2 pedestrian fatalities; man arrested and charged with murder‘Alaska’s gonna feel a lot of pain from this': Outdoor Alliance anticipates federal layoffs to ripple into economic troubleAlaska senator signals concern on potential loss of 100+ federal Alaska jobs to Trump reductions‘Working around the clock’: Murkowski addresses concerns on cuts to federal workforce in public town hall
