A tragic head-on collision on U.S. Highway 2 near Gold Bar resulted in three fatalities and one injury early Saturday. A vehicle attempting to overtake another crossed into oncoming traffic, striking an eastbound vehicle. The deceased include the driver of the westbound vehicle and both occupants of the eastbound vehicle. A passenger in the westbound vehicle sustained injuries.

Three people were killed and another was injured in a head-on collision early Saturday on U.S. Highway 2 near Gold Bar, according to the Washington State Patrol. A westbound vehicle attempted to pass another and crossed into the eastbound lane, striking an oncoming vehicle, Troopers said. The westbound vehicle came to rest on the westbound side of the highway, while the eastbound vehicle stopped on the eastbound shoulder.
The driver of the westbound vehicle, identified as Jose Hernandez-Ibanez, 26, of Tacoma, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in that vehicle, Bernardo Hernandez-Guzman, 28, of Tacoma, was injured and transported to Providence Medical Center. Both occupants of the eastbound vehicle — a 33-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man from Gold Bar — were killed.All four people were wearing seatbelts, according to the State Patrol.
