Ursuline College will be celebrating a historic commencement this spring to mark the close of a 155-year chapter.

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - Ursuline College will be celebrating a historic commencement this spring to mark the close of a 155-year chapter.

According to a release from the college, it will be celebrating its final commencement as an independent institution ahead of its merger with Gannon University on June 30. More than 300 undergraduate and graduate students are expected to participate, and will not only celebrate the achievements of the graduates, but the legacy of the Ursuline Sisters.

With the merger, the college said Ursuline will become part of Gannon University to ensure the continuation of its mission with a broader Catholic educational system while preserving its identity and heritage.

Ursuline College was founded in 1871 by the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland, and it has been a pioneer in women’s education and a steadfast force in preparing students for lives of purpose and impact, the college said.

Although the 2026 commencement will mark an ending, it also signals as a new beginning of the continuation of Ursuline’s mission and a strengthened Catholic partnership. This moment is not an ending, but an expression of who we have always been. For more than 175 years, the Ursuline Sisters have been called to educate, to serve, and to respond with courage to the needs of the time. That mission lives on in every Ursuline graduate.

As this new chapter begins, we do so with deep gratitude for our history and abiding faith in the future —trusting that what has been planted here will continue to grow in ways we cannot yet see.Rocky River High School baseball team coaches resign after incident with fraternity members in Myrtle Beach, SCFather kills 7 of his children plus another child in shooting after domestic dispute, police saySummit County sobriety checkpoints to be conducted Friday nightStudent dies after shooting herself in cafeteria of Valley Forge High School
