On Friday, United Way of Anchorage participated in the Anchorage Citywide Cleanup.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce kicked off its annual Anchorage Citywide Cleanup on May 2nd, as volunteers started tackling tons of trash around the city.
The event runs through the entire month. On Friday, United Way of Anchorage participated in the clean-up efforts.
“As the snow melts, there’s always treasures, a lot of treasures under the snow,” Sue Brogan, chief operating officer of United Way of Anchorage, said. Armed with gloves and trash pickers, Brogan led a group of roughly 15 to 20 volunteers and staff members on Friday, picking up trash as part of the citywide cleanup initiative. Her team on Friday was focused on covering several miles of terrain in Mountain View, where United Way of Anchorage is located.
According to Brogan, the mission behind United Way of Anchorage is to build a thriving community.
“That takes on many components, one of which is the natural environment like we’re doing today with our cleanup,” Brogan said. “The purpose for us is, again, because we work here in Mountain View, we’re a part of the Mountain View community, and we want to show Mountain View that we’re here and that we care.
