Lucid reveals Lunar robotaxi concept and advances talks with Uber to deploy autonomous vehicles built on its new Midsize EV platform.

Lucid unveiled a new robotaxi concept and outlined plans to expand autonomous mobility during its investor day in New York. The company introduced a purpose-built autonomous vehicle concept called Lunar while also detailing a broader strategy to scale production and move toward profitability.

The robotaxi concept reflects Lucid’s push into autonomous mobility and commercial fleet operations. Executives said the vehicle builds on the company’s upcoming Midsize electric vehicle platform, which will support both consumer cars and future mobility services.Lucid also said it is advancing discussions with Uber to deploy vehicles built on the new platform at large scale.Lucid introduced Lunar as a two-seat robotaxi designed specifically for autonomous ride-hailing fleets. The concept removes traditional driver controls such as pedals and a steering wheel. The vehicle focuses on efficiency, durability, and high fleet utilization. Lucid engineers designed it around the company’s upcoming Midsize electric vehicle platform. That platform allows Lucid to adapt its technology for both consumer vehicles and commercial mobility services. The Lunar concept highlights how Lucid plans to expand beyond passenger EVs. The company sees autonomous ride-hailing fleets as a major future market.Lucid said the robotaxi aims to maximize operating economics over its lifetime. The simplified interior and autonomous design allow more efficient fleet operation.Partnership with UberLucid also emphasized its growing relationship with Uber as part of its autonomy strategy.Executives said the companies are in advanced discussions to finalize an agreement to deploy vehicles based on Lucid’s Midsize platform. The scale could match the planned Gravity robotaxi program and expand over time.“We view Lucid as a key strategic partner as we continue to rapidly deploy autonomous vehicles around the world,” said Dara Khosrowshahi.“Lucid’s unmatched efficiency, autonomy-ready vehicle architectures, and customer-centric approach give us confidence in our ability to deliver autonomous mobility together at global scale.”Lucid said its vehicle architecture already supports autonomous systems. The company designed its platforms to integrate sensors, computing systems, and advanced driver assistance technologies.Platform behind the robotaxiThe Lunar robotaxi concept runs on Lucid’s upcoming Midsize EV platform. The company revealed the platform during the same investor day presentation.Lucid said the architecture will support several vehicles, including two consumer SUVs called Lucid Cosmos and Lucid Earth. A third model will follow later.Vehicles on the platform will start below $50,000, targeting higher-volume premium EV segments. The platform also introduces Lucid’s new Atlas electric drive unit. Engineers designed the system to be smaller, lighter, and easier to manufacture.Lucid said efficiency remains its core advantage. More efficient vehicles require smaller battery packs, which significantly reduces cost.“Lucid has already proven its capabilities through technology and product leadership,” said Marc Winterhoff, interim CEO at Lucid Group.“Today, we’re keeping the same Lucid product and technology DNA intact, while applying increased scale, capital efficiency, and cost discipline.”Lucid also plans to introduce new software services alongside its hardware strategy. These include an in-vehicle AI assistant and a subscription model for autonomous driving features priced between $69 and $199 per month.Executives said combining efficient EV platforms with software revenue and autonomous mobility partnerships could accelerate Lucid’s path to profitability while expanding its presence in the global mobility market.
